Dayaaam. . . it's been a while since I've written here.
Firstly - let me just say that this was not out of choice. I love my blogging hobby (I am a writer after all!) and have been missing it like crazy!! Now, I know you are currently rolling your eyes, thinking "yeah-whatever . . bitch got bored" but let me tell you what happened.
As you may know, I moved house about 6 weeks ago, to what I thought was a nice country manor. It turns out I took a wrong turn somewhere and drove head-first into a black hole (one completely devoid of any type of technological capability). I shit you not, my friends! I have to drive 30 mins just to send a text. We had to get special technology installed to get free to air TV (not allowed in a rental house-but we will forego our bond to be able to watch TV). We have tried special aerials etc for internet, but alas still no signal. Same with pay TV - even if they were allowed to drill holes in the roof of our heritage listed rental..there's not enough signal for Austar to work anyway.
While this inability to use modern technology is, at the very least, inconvenient (you dont realise how many people/companies only communicate online until you have to try to contact them by phone - landline of course!), it has actually been a blessing in disguise in some respects.
I have started living like people did 50 years ago (well-sort of) and have basically been an unwitting participant in some sort of modern obesity study. This may seem a little abstract but read on and you will see what I mean (please note I have done the following out of boredom-due to my status as an unemployed bum and a lack of technological stimuli to entertain me):
1. I have been gardening: Hoe-ing, raking, digging, planting, weeding, watering, pruning etc. Its seriously quite hard work, even though I dont start till 6:30pm, as it's too hot to start earlier. I now have some fresh, organic tomatoes about to ripen into juicy balls of deliciousness and lots of fresh herbs to spruce up any meal.
2. I have stairs in my house and use them whenever possible.
3. I walk to the baker in town (coincidentally, apart from the petrol station it is also the only shop in town) and get beautiful fresh, artisan bread.
4. I exercise in the afternoon for something to do.
5. I have been cooking a lot. So far a success, except for the passionfruit marshmallows-complete disaster.
6. Reading A LOT of books. Aside from the fact that I love it, believe me when I tell you it is a lot harder to eat while reading than it is to eat in front of the TV.
If you get where I'm going with all this, you will foresee what I am about to tell you. Despite eating a fair bit, I have actually lost weight and size quite easily and steadily. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out that this would happen, but it's pretty damn cool.
The unfortunate thing is that now we have more than 2 (crap) TV channels, I have been watching more and doing less of this active living stuff-and by the increasing muffin top above my shorts today (not hideous but getting there), it shows!!
I am moving back to the city next week (my boyfriend is coming back from fighting someone elses war-yay!) and I hope to incorporate some of this stuff back into my life there. After all, urban gardening is very 'now', reading and literacy is never uncool and its pretty easy to walk to the ferry each day. The good news is that I will be able to write on FITshionable more often now that I will have constant internet access.
Let me know what you think, or if you have any tips for me to transfer my new active lifestyle to the city...
Also . . . if you have a damn clue about how to make marshmallows that don't look like a gooey mess of jelly separated from the whipped eggwhite on top, I'd love to hear that too!
Thanks for having me back, folks!
